Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian painter born in 1452. He was one of the first leaders of the Renaissance, and his most famous painting is the Mona Lisa.
Leonardo was born in Anchiano, Italy on April 15, 1452. His father was a landlord, and his mother was a peasant. [1] He was actually an illegitimate son. At 15, he was made an apprentice at Andrea del Verrochio’s workshop. He helped paint an angel in Verrochio’s painting Baptism of Christ. [2]
In 1482, da Vinci decided to serve the Duke of Milan. This led him to give up previous projects commissioned by the city of Florence. He painted several religious paintings, but he had an even bigger project soon: a bronze statue of an old ruler named Francesco Sforza. Da Vinci worked with the duke until his fall to power in 1499. [3]
Da Vinci’s famous work is called the Mona Lisa. It is currently located in the Louvre Museum. The painting is extremely iconic. Da Vinci also made a self-portrait, though he looks a lot older than he ever was. [4] Da Vinci was not only a painter; he also made sketches for prototypes. He made diagrams for tools such as weapons. This is another thing he is famous for.
Today, Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most popular historical artists in the world. His works are extremely popular, and his diagrams even helped shape the future. For instance, one of his diagrams for a flying machine was used for the invention of the plane more than 500 years later. [5] Overall, he is an iconic painter that led the Renaissance and has a legacy that lives on until today.
