Napoleon Bonaparte - Formal v. Informal (July 10, 2024) (Grade 5, Language Arts)

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French general who seized power as consul in 1799 and became emperor of France in 1804. 1 During his rule, he invaded countries such as Austria, Prussia, the Netherlands, and Russia. He managed to turn those countries into his puppet states. However, during his invasion of Russia, he became too profoundly arrogant, and that was the beginning of his demise. Following the invasion, Napoleon’s French Empire fell apart. He was exiled to the island of Elba by his enemies, and a new French king was installed. Though he escaped and took over again for 100 days, after the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815, he was exiled to a further place known as St. Helena, where he died in 1821.

One of my favorite historical figures is Napoleon Bonaparte. He was a French general who became consul of France in 1799 and emperor of France in 1804. His empire was a big one, as he attacked several countries like Austria, Prussia, the Netherlands, and Russia. For this, he’s still widely known by historians as a great ruler and military commander. However, I’ll admit that he was a bit arrogant at times. In fact, his invasion of Russia was way too superfluous. His empire fell apart, he was exiled to an island called Elba, and you’d think it’s the end of the story. But no. He managed to escape and take over France for another 100 days. But by June 18, 1815, his empire died again. He was exiled to another island named St. Helena, and perished there in 1821. But how about you? Who’s your favorite historical figure? Regardless, you should study Napoleon and his French Empire; it’s a very interesting story.
